The ambition of Bohusläns Museum and Solveig Gustafsson is to continue to provide hand knitters with opportunities to knit their own Bohus Stickning garments, as much like the originals as possible. The yarn kits and patterns are sold only through Bohusläns Museum and AngoraGarnet, a retailer authorized by the Museum.
The patterns and yarns are produced by Pernille Silfverberg of AngoraGarnet in close collaboration with Solveig Gustafsson.
In the original patterns and color charts the knitters used, measurements for bust size, length and width were listed only schematically so the knitters relied more on measurements than stitch counts. This, in combination with the complex patterns required both knowledge and intuition and much was left for the individual knitter to solve by herself.
For the convenience of knitters today, the pattern instructions are more detailed and the fit of the garments has been adjusted to better align with modern tastes and sizing conventions. A Bohus Knitting design often came to be used for several different garment styles, eg both cardigan and sweater with matching gloves and hat. The pattern could also be varied in several different colorways and this variation is also reflected in the newly developed collection. The garments are worked in a two ply Danish wool yarn or a merino/angora blend yarn, both hand dyed by Pernille Silfverberg. Recommended needle sizes are 2.00 and 2.50 mm. Each kit contains sufficient yarn to make the largest size.
